Description

This module consists in a philosophical examination of the relationship between God or a person's orientation toward God and the good life. For example, do God's commands, motives, or character traits provide the ultimate explanation for what makes actions right or wrong or traits good or bad? If God exists, is the world better off, worse off, or neither? Do certain attitudes or dispositions toward God, such as belief or hope or faith, make a valuable contribution to a well-lived life? What about other attitudes or dispositions that play a special role in theistic religious traditions, such as humility, others-centeredness, or unconditional forgiveness; do such traits make the contribution to the good life they are claimed to make? Could such traits be valuable even if there isn't a God?
